US Senate To Vote On Bill That Will Allow The Military To Arrest Americans On American Soil And Hold Them Indefinitely
Since Occupy Wall Street began, American police officers have arrested thousands of people for exercising their constitutionally protected right to protest. On Monday or Tuesday, the US Senate will vote on a bill that would give the President the ability to order the military to arrest and imprison American citizens anywhere in the world for an indefinite period of time.
A provision of S. 1867, or the National Defense Authorization Act bill, written by Senators John McCain and Carl Levin, declares American soil a battlefield and allows the President and all future Chief Executives to order the military to arrest and detain American citizens, innocent or not, without charge or trial. In other words, if this bill passes and the President signs it, OWS protesters or any American could end up arrested and indefinitely locked up by the military without the guaranteed right to due process or a speedy trial.
This bill was written in secret and approved by committee without a single hearing. Senate Republicans support the bill and enough Democrats support it to give it a great chance of passing. This provision does have opponents. President Obama has threatened to veto the bill and even Ron Paul is concerned enough to bring it up during one of the GOP debates. An amendment called the Udall Amendment has been offered by Democratic Senator Mark Udall that would delete the dangerous provision.
If you are an American citizen, protect your constitutional rights. Call your senator and tell them to approve of the Udall Amendment. No American citizen should be arrested by the military and held indefinitely without charge or trial. It’s not conducive to American values and would give the military and the government more power over the American citizenry. The last time Americans had to deal with an overreaching military was during the Revolutionary era. Because of that, the Founders included the 3rd Amendment to ban the quartering of troops during times of war and peace. Once again, Americans are under threat of dealing with a military that has more power than it should have. And it could cost us most of the freedoms we tend to take for granted.
America is NOT a battlefield. America is a free country and American citizens should not ever be arrested by the military and certainly not without being charged or getting a trial. This provision would cast aside the Constitution and put the liberties of American citizens here at home and around the world at serious risk. Please call your senator or visit this link, because this is a risk Americans cannot afford to take.

It is my belief that we should be living in a society where our government looks out for the interests of its people and protects their rights. However, currently we live in a society where our government looks out for interests of its corporations and protects their rights. In the United States of America, we tout our government as being by and for the people. Today that is definitely not the case.

A Quick Rant About the Current State of Affairs
noun, plural -cies.- government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system.
- a state having such a form of government: The United States and Canada are democracies.
- a state of society characterized by formal equality of rights and privileges.
- political or social equality; democratic spirit.
- the common people of a community as distinguished from any privileged class; the common people with respect to their political power.
Corporatocracy, in social theories that focus on conflicts and opposing interests within society, denotes a system of government that serves the interest of, and may be run by, corporations and involves ties between government and business. Where corporations, conglomerates, and/or government entities with private components, control the direction and governance of a country, including carrying out economic planning (notwithstanding the “free market” label).[1]
It is my belief that we should be living in a society where our government looks out for the interests of its people and protects their rights. However, currently we live in a society where our government looks out for interests of its corporations and protects their rights. In the United States of America, we tout our government as being by and for the people. Today that is definitely not the case.It is our government’s responsibility to protect us and our interests. Above all else that is their job.
It is a corporation’s goal to grow and become as successful as possible. They do not care about our interests, unless it helps them sell us something.
These two entities should not be working together.
It goes against the literal definition of democracy to put the priorities of corporations ahead of the needs of its citizens. Thus the need to redefine corporations themselves as people. This way, they are allowed to participate in our democratic process freely.
I will say this, capitalism is a great economic system that inspires creativity, innovation, and has enormous potential for societal growth. However, this system cannot go unchecked. There is an absolute need for regulation. Just as our government cannot go unchecked. We have three branches of government in order to maintain a system of checks and balances. We should all remember that from school. Deregulation allows for companies that are driven by greed to do everything in their power to maximize profits. This includes cutting corners on quality, disposing of waste as cheaply as possible, finding ways to pay their employees less, and minimizing employee benefits. It allows for price gouging. It allows for monopolies and pseudo-monopolies to exist. It allows for wall street executives to set up loans for homes and school that are misleading and almost impossible to pay back and will be defaulted on more often than not. It’s wrong that this happening creates profit for someone.
Having a privatized banking system does the same. Our Federal Reserve Bank is not a government agency. It is private, and driven by profit. Every time it creates money in order to give our government a loan, it cut’s that dollar in your pocket down in size. There is only so much pie. Each time we create more money, we just make the slices smaller. A name for this is inflation. Something else that gets inflated is a balloon. Keep inflating and eventually it’ll pop. The same is true here.Something that needs to be made absolutely clear. Government involvement, social programs, and regulation are not anti-capitalist. They are pro-society. They are the reason we have a government. Infrastructure is a social program. Police are a social program. Schools are a social program. Prosecuting slum lords is regulation. Shutting down puppy mills is regulation. So why are these types ok yet healthcare for everyone and regulation of wall street and corporations is not? Why are people pissed about lack of funding for schools and roads but unwilling to raise taxes, especially on the richest 1% to 5% of us? Why is it such a hard concept for people to see that if you improve everyone’s state of being, your state of being improves as well? We are so willing to be helpful to our fellow neighbor on an individual level, but when it comes to society as a whole, we have this us vs. them mentality that is going to tear us apart. Literally. If this extreme polarization of American politics and values continues, we will fall apart as a society. There has always been strife, and greed, and opposing viewpoints, and corruption here. But there hasn’t always been 24 hour news networks spitting poison into our ears, getting us to hold onto buzzwords and turning extremely complicated issues into 30 second cliff note segments. I know this rant is a bit scattered, but I needed to put it out there. Cheers(Source: dinfinite)

This country does in fact have a serious deficit problem, but the reality is that the deficit was caused by two wars — unpaid for. It was caused by huge tax breaks for the wealthiest people in this country. It was caused by a recession as result of the greed, recklessness and illegal behavior on Wall Street. And if those are the causes of the deficit, I will be damned if we’re going to balance the budget on backs of the elderly, the sick, the children, and the poor. That’s wrong.

Politico: Why SOPA is on the Congressional agenda
Hollywood’s in a showdown over its TV shows, movies and music with an up-and-coming opponent in the Washington arena: the Silicon Valley gang.
And that can only mean a huge payday for lobbyists.
According to figures compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics, the film, music and TV industries have spent more than $91 million on lobbying so far this year — an amount that puts them on pace to beat all of their previous spending records.(via kateoplis)

There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody. You built a factory out there — good for you. But I want to be clear. You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for. You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate. You were safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn’t have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory… Now look. You built a factory and it turned into something terrific or a great idea — God Bless! Keep a Big Hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along.
